Rožmberk nad Vltavou Castle
Rožmberk Castle was founded in the first half of 13th century by a member of the powerful Witigonen family, Vok from Prčice who later called himself after this castle Wok from Rosenberg. Very soon in the settlement round the castle a serfdom townlet arose. The castle became the administrative and economic centre of the manor.
The castle was named after the five petal rose that its founder had in his coat-of-arms. The German name Rosenberg (Rose castle) was Czechicized on the name Rožmberk. The Rožmberk family changed the castle into a beautiful Renaissance residence. The castle was interesting even later thanks to the Buquoy family who was holding the castle from the first half of 17th century till the year 1945.
Interior of the CastleThe interior of the castle takes visitors back not only to the times of the last Rožmberks, Vilém and Petr Vok, but also to the famous Buquoy family.
